Vellore police lay down rules for Vinayaka Chathurthi

Vellore: District police on Friday urged Hindu outfits and festival organising committees to adhere to rules and regulations during the upcoming Vinayaka Chathurthi celebrations.

Chairing the consultative meeting with the Hindu outfits such as Hindu Munnani and BJP party functionaries at the district police office on Friday, district superintendent of police P Pakalavan said the festival organising committee members would be held responsible if anything went wrong.

The SP said motor vehicles should be used for taking out the idols on procession. Prior permission from police stations is necessary for erecting the idols.

The idols should not be above 10ft, including the base. “The organising committees should also ensure the safety of the idols erected in public places. Permission will not be given to erect the idols within 500m from places of worships, educational institutions, state and central government buildings and hospitals. At least five members of the committee should present at any point of time near the idols,” said the SP. He said the department would take all precautionary measures to avert such incidents this year.
